COPPA Compliance
Draft — not yet effective · Last edited 2026-07-13
This is a working draft for review. It is not the final policy, it is not published, and it is not legal advice. The wording will change after review by counsel.
Students under 13
Slate is built for learners, and we take children's privacy seriously. This notice explains how accounts for children under 13 work, in line with COPPA.
Parental consent
When a student indicates they are under 13, the account starts limited and cannot go fully live until a parent or guardian gives verifiable consent. Until then there are no social features and no public profile.
What we collect for children
We collect only what is needed for the learning experience, and we do not require a child to share more than necessary to participate.
Parental rights
Parents can review their child's information, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw consent, which closes the account. Parents also receive a simple, read-only summary of learning progress, with no message reading.
