Privacy Policy
Draft — not yet effective · Last edited 2026-07-13
This is a working draft for review. It is not the final policy, it is not published, and it is not legal advice. The wording will change after review by counsel.
What this covers
This policy explains what Slate collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is written to meet COPPA, FERPA, GDPR, and CCPA obligations.
What we collect
- Profile data you give us: name, email, username, avatar, age band.
- Usage data: the decks, lessons, notes, and study activity you create.
- Device data: browser and device type, and basic diagnostics.
- Payment data, handled by our payment processor; we do not store card numbers.
How we use it
To run Slate, personalize your learning, keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your data.
AI and your content
By default your prompts and content are not used to train third-party models. Any change to this would be opt-in and disclosed here.
Who we share it with
Service providers that help us run Slate (for example payment, hosting, email, and AI providers), your school if your account is school-tied, and authorities where the law requires it. A current sub-processor list lives on the Trust center.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, export, objection, and restriction. Export and deletion are available in Settings. To exercise a right, contact privacy@slateapp.co.
Retention
We keep account data while your account is active, billing records as required by law, and abuse reports as needed to keep people safe. Deleted accounts are erased after a 30-day grace period.
Children under 13 (COPPA)
Accounts for children under 13 require verifiable parental consent and have restricted features. Parents can review, and request deletion of, their child's information. See the COPPA notice.
EU/UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA)
EU and UK users have the rights above plus the right to complain to a supervisory authority. California residents have the right to know, delete, and opt out of any sale; we do not sell personal information.
Changes and contact
We will post changes here with a new date and notify you of material ones. Questions: privacy@slateapp.co, or write to Apex LLC, Dallas, Texas, United States.
